On the morning of Sunday 24th May the Revd Baden Pearce let us in a memorable service, during which we sang favourite Wesley Hymns and were reminded of the inspiring story of the beginnings of Methodism. After coffee many of us were transported to Wesley Hall where a delicious 5-course lunch awaited us. As were finishing our coffee, Rob moved us on to the Auction of Promises. Bidding was rapid for such lots as a car ride to Southend with fish and chips, a mornings gardening with Edna (who’s she?) and Pauline and the offers of various tempting meals. The total raised for the lunch was £115 to be shared between World Service and Network. The auction raised a staggering £770 which will go to support the work of the Wycliffe Bible Translations in Papua New Guinea where Claire (daughter of Rob & Jenny Noble) and her husband Andrew work. Thank you to all who worked to provide us with lunch, to Rob who masterminded the auction and to everyone else who helped to make Aldersgate Sunday such a joyful occasion. Mary Zelinger |
